11 March 2021, The Hague, Netherlands – Post-Services NL has begun the process of installing beacons on its roll containers, which are digital trackers that will follow their movements. Roll container tracking is a must for future real-time logistics chain operations, as it increases the quality of data and the efficiency of our services. This big project is part of Post-Services NL’s multi-year digital transformation initiative, in which the firm will invest heavily over the next few years.
Benefits to webshops and consumers
Post-Services NL will be able to make better logistics decisions in terms of planning, interventions, and management using the data supplied by these roll containers. Clients benefit from the data as well: webshops who distribute online orders to consumers via Post-Services NL can better track collection, packaging, and returns processes. Improving service and knowledge throughout the supply chain benefits consumers in the long run.
Generating real-time insights
These beacons interact using a bluetooth signal, aggregating data from across the network on an Internet of Things (IoT) platform. Where are we seeing an overflow, what roll containers are now at our clients, and how can we make the process go faster? All of these questions, and more, should be answered with the help of digital trackers. Journeys to and from clients, as well as between depots, can be organized more efficiently, and stock turnover rates should increase as it becomes evident where the roll containers are best used. In addition to cost savings, there will be less vacant space in vehicles, which will benefit the environment.
